Kailuaブログ復活！！(帰国1周年記念)

ボストンから帰国して早1年。

ブログを再開しようとして、何度か書いた記事が、Webブラウザのバックボタンで白紙になること計４回 (実は今回もやってしまった:笑)。

こんなことがあり、ブログ再開のタイミングがなかなかつかめずにいました。

が、自分自身のウィンドの記録や、仲間やうまい飯との出会いなどを今年こそ残したいということで、帰国1周年を記念と題して（？）ブログを再開します！！

ホームゲレンデは、渡米前とほとんど変わらず、夏は西湖、八景島、三浦、鎌倉。今春より、近場の茅ヶ崎（Tバー、サザンビーチ）や猿ヶ島なども開拓中です。妻のレベルもあがってきたので、昨年はいかなかった本栖湖復活も楽しみ。

自分のウィンド以外にも、グルメや旅行など関しても書いていきたいと思います。

Long time no BLOG.

I can't not blog much more than I've ever done due to my busy time. But, I'm completely alive.
Here is the best video I've taken for a month. Enjoy to see an interesting work preparing for terrible Boston winter.

Guinness award event about lantern, Head of the Charles, and World's end

We had a lot of interesting evnets on this weekend.

1.Head Of The Charles(Famous Regatta Race in Charles river)
I can omit an explanation of this event. This is the most biggest regatta race in the world.

3. Hiking in World's End
It's not too far from Boston, just 1 hour. The trial is very easy to walk although it has a variety of trail. We enjoyed a really nice views from the small hill in very small peninsula, the World's end.
The World's end provide us various landscapes includes pond, sea, rocky seashore, sandy seashore, small bay town, and autumn foliage, and evergreen tree. Surprisingly, we can see the downtown of Boston from a lot of places.

Autumn Foriage in New Hampshire and Massachusetts

I went to White mountain in New Hampshire and Wachusett in Massachusetts to see autumn foliage this weekend.
I'm sorry that I can just say it was REALLY beautiful!!

Enjoy pictures and videos although I believe that I can't show the real landscape very well by them. Note that the level of autumn foliage in White mountains was beyond the peak. That in Wachusett has just been the peak.

About White mountain, we went to the trail based on the information we got from information desk in Lincoln.
The map we got is completely as same as the one on the official web. That was very useful to go around the trail effectively.

About Wachusett, we can get the map at the lodge in the Wachusett ski Area. But you might also have a information in the entrance of the Wachusett Mountain State Reservation. You can download the map on the web.

Trip to Aruba(9/30-10/6)

We went to Aruba, one of the island of Caribbean, for a week from 9/30, which was our too late "summer vacation."

One of the reasons we chose Aruba is that it's good for windsurfing beginner, my wife. It's not only windy but also warm and safe. There are a few good windsurfing rental center.
But, as you might know, October is not windy season in Caribbean. But it's better for my wife.

Of course, I have another options in Caribbean or others. But, Aruba is not too big compared with other famous places, not too urbanized. It's also the one of the safe place in Caribbean.

I can write the same short diary every day as follows:

When we waked up in the morning, I went to eat breakfast outdoor cafeteria on the beach, or inside restaurant.

About windsurfing, it was completely perfect.
After windsurfing, nothing is better than drinking tons of cold beers on the beach seeing a nice sunset(see pictures below).
After dark, we sometimes continued to drink beers while feeling nice breeze for a while.
Then, after 8pm , we went to very nice restaurant,but not too expensive. Likely because Aruba is a part of Holland, food was not too American if you would like to select.

When we feel a little bit muscle pain, we enjoyed going to natural places such as the desert area and the natural pool and bridge that was shaped by strong current, waves, and wind.

Every day was such like the above.
Totally, it was stable and really exciting vacation.

How to cook a Japanese-style grilled spicy pancake

I let you know how to cook a Japanese-style grilled spicy pancake, which we call Okonomiyaki.

Windsurfing at Kalmus beach in Cape Cod

I went windsurfing in Kalmus beach park in Cape Cod on last Saturday. Kalmus beach is one of my favorite spot in US because it's not too crowded even during summer season and has very beautiful white sand.
I used a new used sail bought from a guy who sold his sail on the iWindsurf.com. It's my first time to buy ezzy sail. Its first impression was very powerful although the condition was very under.

Chatham in Cape Cod

We went to Chatham in south east of Cape Cod last Saturday after sleeping on the West Dennis beach for 2 hours because the wind finally didn't come up.

We found that this was the Cape Cod style with white sand and calm.
Because we arrived at the place between afternoon and evening.
Every one were coming back to the parking from shore line, which we were going to.
We was so happy to see such a beautiful landscape with some birds eating sea weed appearing on the ground due to low tide.

8/6 Blue Hill Reservation

I and my wife went to Blue Hill Reservation on Sunday afternoon.
I believe that the Eliot Tower on the top of mountain must be the best place where we can see a whole picture of Boston downtown and Boston harbor at the same time for free!!

It took just about 45 minutes from our apartment in Cambridge by car. We enjoyed just 30 minutes hiking of the path with some rock steepness from one of the parkings of the reservation to the Eliot Tower

8/5 Shot out in the Tanglewood concert due to my bad manner

I and my wife went to see Tanglewood concert provided by Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Before the concert started, we met my wife's friends in the lawn area of Tanglewood, and shared and enjoyed the foods brought by each family or individual. I was really happy to legally drink a lot of beer and wine on the outdoor place. Although it was a concert, I think that it was a part of Tanglewood style that people should enjoy.

Anyway, before the concert began, we moved to our own seat in open-auditorium. But, just when I sit down in it, I noticed that I forgot to take my camera from my bag that I left on the mat where our friends stayed in. So, just before the concert began, I came back to the place to pick it up. When I tried to come back to my seat, the staff came to me and prohibited me to enter the auditorium until the first program ended. I thought that that's ok with me because it's my fault.

So, I decided to wait for the timing when I can re-enter just in front of the entrance of auditorium where I can see everything in it.
But, when I took the video in that place, the staff came to me again, and said, 'no recording.' I'm soory that I was a terrible bad manner person!!

So, I decided to move to the place far away from it because I took a video again:-). You might be able to understand calm and beautiful atmosphere with darkish sky from the video below:



After the first waves of applause, I and other guys were allowed to enter again. Of course, I secretly took a video again from my seat because that's the purpose of going back to pick the camera.

The concert was really wonderful and it was my first time to see a Tanglewood and Seiji Ozawa. The video below was taken just after the concert. You might be able to recognize Ozawa:



In conclusion toward myself, don't intend to take a video of the concert, just enjoy the consert itself!!

Pingu(in New England Aquarium)

I and my wife went to New England Aquarium on this week end.

The most interesting event was that we saw nonfiction "Pingu", which means NOT animation Pingu.
I put a series of videos about 'pretty story' of a penguin, which was taken not in Swiss but in Boston in US.
A narrator spoke Japanese in this videos.
But it doesn't matter because Pingu is like a silent cinema for children. These video were made in the same concept.
I believe that you can enjoy them even though you can't understand the narrations.

My first cooking of lobster

This is a video of a little bit sad story about lobster.

I bought a very fresh lobster in Robert's Maine Grill and Market in the Kittery outlet mall after eating a lobster in their restraunt. That was the best lobster I have ever eaten in Boston and Cambridge.

エアロ最高です(Boston's Fourth of July Celebrationの前夜祭。つまり7/3)

いってきました。みてきました。
といっても前夜祭の7/3バージョンですが、明日7/4は予定取りMITセイリングから花火をみることにして、全く同じ構成で行われるというリハーサルに7/3午後8時30分からみてきました。
場所は、エアロの地元、ボストンのチャールズリバー沿いにあるコンサート会場。今回の目玉は、ボストンポップスとの共演(こちらも地元で主役はもちろんこちらです)。

細かいことは抜き。ほやほやのビデオお楽しみあれ。

Red Sox vs. Washington Nationals

6/21、今シーズン3回目のフェンウェイ球場でボストンレッドソックス戦を観戦してきました。

全二回は天候に恵まれませんでしたが本日は快晴でした。

結果は9-3でRed Sox。これで観戦勝敗2勝1敗です。
本日の座席はMITのチケット抽選で当たったもの。
座席のうち一つはなんとフェンウェイ球場の名物の鉄の柱で、不幸なことにピッチャーがまるまる見えない。バックネット裏からやや3塁側の場所的には良い席だったので少し残念でした。

本日は試合観戦後、Ｔシャツを購入。Ｔシャツの裏には自分の好きな20番ユーキリス(以下写真)の名前と背番号。ユーキリス選手のファンなのは、単純に彼が打席に着く前のかけ声「ユー！！」がとても気に入ったため。
実は、このかけ声、最初は「ブー（ブーイング）」に聞こえて「？」だった。
今では人一倍おおきな声で叫んでいます。ただし、発音が悪いので外人にはブート聞こえるかもしれない。

Wind Fest in West Dennis in Cape Cod

ケープコッドのWest Dennisビーチで行われた金、土、日の三日間のイベントの情報をローカルMLでゲットし、最終日の日曜日に日帰りで参加した。
イベント名は「Windfest 2006: Cape Cod Freestyle Frenzy Wind Surfing Competition」

ウィンドサーファーは万国共通

6/11 今年2回目のウィンドサーフィン

今年にはいってからの二回目のウィンドサーフィン。

日曜日、目覚めると晴天。
そして、良い風が吹いている。そして、今日の予定はなかった。
よし、いこう。

はやる気持ちを抑え、妻と一緒に近くのスーパーに食品の買い出しをすませ、近場のいつものpleasureビーチに3時頃到着。

しかし、コンディションはオフショアであまり良さそうに見えない。
渋っていると、近くのオヤジ・ウィンドサーファーがよってきて、「フォローミー。カモン」としつこくせがまれる。何でもローカルで今日はこれから6時まで必ず風があがってくると。。。

かなり怪しいと思いつつ心が揺らぐ。
出艇場所は風速ゼロ。しかし、オフショアなので風は水面ではわからない(風波が見えにくい)が、時々少し強めのブローも吹いているようだった。

妻の後押しもあり（せっかくだからやればという）、支度を始める。
ビーチには、風が落ちたので道具を片付ける人(午前はそこそこ良かったらしい)、風の噂を聞きつけた午後から出動の若干名がセッティングを始めている。

自分は手持ち唯一のセット6.7+120Lのファイヤーボール。
セイルもあちこち破け、もう限界に近い。

セッティングし終わると、相変わらず岸辺は風速ゼロ。
しかし、沖ではデカセイルがプレーニングし始めている。

出艇。確かに沖は少し吹いている。ややアンダーながら時々やってくるブローを捉えながら意外にも端から端までプレーニングできるではないか。
ウハハハハ。こりゃ、超楽しい。

ジャイブをやる。風邪も足りないこともあり、そして、もちろん技術不足で、後半やや失速するが度平面なのでまぁわるくない感じだ。
プレーニングタックも何度か決まる。
うーん、なかなかわすれないものだね(笑)。



上が今はやりのYouTubeによる動画です。後半失速した瞬間に今の体重比では浮力不足のボードのノーズがあがり更に失速を強めているようです。もうちょっと前傾になりボードを積極的に回さないとだめですね。

それにしても、何でこんなに楽しいのだろう。

と、かれこれ2時間ほど楽しみ、風邪も落ちてきたところで終了(午後6時なり)。ボストンは今は夏時間で9時まで明るいです。

とここからもう一つイベント。

海からあがると見知らぬ女性がやってきた。
「これはなんて言うスポーツなの？初めてみたけど、すごい〜」
「いったいどうなってるの？？？？」
「そうそう、これあなただよね。写真とったんだけどいる？」
という。

なんでも、ミズーリからやってきたという若い女性で、自称、医療機器エンジニア、かつ、ダンサー、そして、写真を趣味とするそうだ。
格好はダンサーっぽくひらひらの赤いショールのようなものをは負っていて、かなり浮いている。
で、写真をみてみると、ペンタックス製の光学ズームばりばりそうな（たぶんね）デジカメでとったらしくスゴクよくとれている。

「欲しい。送ってくれ〜」

といったら、いきなり車からエプソン製の小型プリンターを出し始めた。
わおぉ。

3枚ほど写真を頂き、電子版もミズーリについたら送ってくれるらしい。

タックをし終わった後、プレーニングする前だが、よくとれている。
今度はジャイブをとってもらおう。



とにもかくにも、ここボストンでウィンドの魅力の一端を少しでもしってもらえたかなと思うとなんだかうれしい。

そして、今日は妻も初めてウィンドに同行してくれて、ビデオを撮ってくれたり写真を撮ってくれたりしてもらった。どうもありがとうございます。

DeCordova美術館、Boston College

ちょっと公私でいそがしく更新が滞っています。

まずは、DeCordova美術館へ。
ニューイングランド地方にすむ者にとってはありがたいバンクオブアメリカ様主催の美術館月刊(ATMカードを見せると無料)を利用して無料鑑賞。
真冬に立ち寄ったことはあるのですが、その時は閉館間際だったため中には入らなかった。
率直な感想としては、アウトドアにある彫刻こそが有名らしいが（「日本の彫刻の森」のようなイメージ）、この日は雨が降ってきたため結局ゆっきりみえなかった。

館内の展示はコンテンポラリ一色。
それほど気むずかしいものはなく、地元のアーティスト展みたいのがやってました(The 2006 DeCordova Annual Exhibition）。

お気に入りはAnna Hepler氏の作品。彼の作品は自然界にある点と線のようなもの(年輪とかタンポポのふわふわのところとか）に着目し、3次元アートとして表現したもの。

↓わかりにくいですが、ものすごい数の点と線で結ばれた幾何模様。手書きであることに意味がある(近くで見るとガタガタしています）。


他、ニュートン在住の日本人Naoe Suzuki氏の作品もありました。


DeCordova美術館に言った帰りに立ち寄ったBoston College。
ボストンは大学の町ということでお約束なところだ。
他にも、他にも現在通っているMIT、お隣のHarvard Universityを始め、Boston University、UMASS(Univercity of Massachusetts)、Tufts University、Babson Collegeとご近所(車で30分県内に)にも沢山あり、近くを通りがかるとたちよったりする。

なお、ボストンにはBoston University(BU)とBoston College(BC)があり少し紛らわしい。しかもどちらも名門だ。詳細はwikipediaを。
写真は、到着後、急に天候がわるくなり、バックは雨雲。
ゴシック様式の建物が建ち並ぶが、なんだかドラキュラ城みたいだ（みたことはないけれど）。
キャンパスは、とても広く、日曜日だったこともあるが、整然としていてとてもきれいな大学。短時間でみたアメフト球場側半分の建物は、今までみた中で施設が新しくとても綺麗だ(大学自体は伝統的があるが)。Chestnut Hillにある小高い丘にあり、眺めも良さそうだ(この日は途中から土砂降りで退散し、それどころではなかったが、BCのことをThe Heights高地と呼ぶそうだ）。

ちなみに、この次の日が卒業式だったらしく、会場となったアメフト競技場にはきれいにいすが並べられていた。
次の日の新聞を見たらなんとライス国務長官が卒業式に参列していたらしい。でも、50名の大学院生を含む卒業生は彼女の名誉学位授与(博士号)の際に、政権に抗議する(イラク戦争や移民政策？)形で背を向けていたらしい。




ところで、唐突だが自分は大学という場所がすきだ。
政治・経済という流れとは別に、それ自体はもっと独立で長期的な歴史観や社会的な認識のなかでゆっくりと居座り、それぞれ独自の色を放っている。それ自体に深い意味はないかもしないけど、大学の町ボストンにきて、いろいろな大学をみたり、聞いたり、していると本当に心地がいい。

パブリックガーデン(スワンボート)

ボストンにきてから早い一年。
乗ろう乗ろうと思っていた名物パブリックガーデンの名物「スワンボート」にちゃんレンジ。

といっておきながら、実はそれほど興味がなかったが、この夏を逃せばチャンスはない(来年帰るので)

ということでのってきました。



感想。
これはいい。ウィンドにヨットとマリンスポーツ大好きな自分としては、なぜ池に浮かぶこんなものに。と半分馬鹿にしていたが、やはり水の上を走る浮遊感はどれも同じだ。
当日は天気も良く、そよ風に揺られながらいい気分でした。

ところで、このスワンボート。
イタリアのベニスのゴンドラのように人がオールでこぐものだと思っていた。改めてよーくみたらなんと一番後ろで人がものすごい勢いで自転車をこいでいるではないか。これはカッコワルイ。
しかし、意外なほどに乗ってみるとスーイスイという感じで、自転車をこぐ音もしなければ一生懸命さも感じさせない(こいでいる人の足は乗っている位置からでは見えない)。妻から聞いたのだが、白鳥はスイスイしているが下はスワンボートと同じように一生懸命こいでいるとか。

なるほど、静穏設計に、こいでいる人も大変そうな顔をしない教育をしているのだろうか。

だとしたら、市内を走るＴ(地下鉄)も見習って欲しいところだ。
特にＴの騒音はすさまじく、レッドラインの一部区間（エルワイフ−ポーター間あたり）ではIPOD音量最大にしても音楽が聞き取れないほどうるさいのだ。
サスペンションも超堅く、というか、想像するにサスペンションはないぐらいがたがたしている。

もとい、観光地のパブリックガーデンのスワンボート。
なかなか良いので是非ボストンに在住、遊びにきたかたは乗ってみてください。

またしてもハッキング

といってもこれは我が家の中のハッキング。

自宅のデスクに、ニューイングランド地方で幅をきかせているCDやDVD他、アーティストやコミック関係の風変わりなグッズを売っている「ニューベリーコミック」のロゴマークを意識したと思われ、粘土でいたずらされていた。
犯人はまだわかっていない。

追伸
このロゴ。ぱっとみてもよーくみても気持ち悪いが今や我が家のお気に入り。
ロゴの名前を調べたら「Toothface」というらしい。なるほど、そのまんまだ。
ニューベリーコミックスに行って、メールアドレスを登録するともれなくグッズがもらえる。
毎回いくたびに知らぬふりをして「これでいい？」とメアドを渡してグッズをもらっていたら「俺はこのメアド知っているぞ。エアロスミスにちなんでいるんだろ(ものすごくわかりやすいのです)」とニコニコしながら、指摘されてしまった。懲りずに、またもらいにいきます。
